ARAW NG KAGITINGAN

Araw ng Kagitingan (lit. 'Day of Valor'), also known as Bataan Day and Bataan and Corregidor Day, is a national observance in the Philippines which commemorates the fall of Bataan during World War II. It falls on April 9, although in 2009, its celebration was moved to April 6 to avoid it from coinciding with Maundy Thursday.

The Philippine Veteran's Week and Araw ng Kagitingan are significant because they pay tribute to all Filipino heroes who fought and died for the country's freedom and liberty. The annual festival takes place on Corregidor Island to commemorate and honor Philippine veterans, patriots, martyrs, and defenders. We must note that Araw ng Kagitingan is a festival of bravery, not just a holiday.

“Bataan has fallen. The Philippine-American troops on this war-ravaged and bloodstained peninsula have laid down their arms. With heads bloody but unbowed, they have yielded to the superior force and numbers of the enemy.”
